Many funders are working with the concept of ‘lived-experience’ when selecting who to fund, they believe that organisations which embed lived experience of the issues they are seeking to address, within their workforce, management and trustee boards are best-placed to make informed and relevant decisions about how to serve their communities. Lived experience means the knowledge and understanding gained by people with direct experience of a particular issue.
By completing the following questionnaire you can help us to demonstrate to funders that many of our staff and Board have lived experience of the issues we seek to address and the communities we serve
Most funders recognise three types of lived experience, they are: Direct lived experience, indirect lived experience and professional experience.
Direct lived experience – people who, due to their personal characteristics, circumstances or life events, have direct experience of an issue, a struggle or a set of circumstances
Indirect lived experience - people who, as a result of a close relationship with someone who has direct lived experience, understand and have been affected by specific issues. (For example, parents or carers of disabled children, people who have supported a loved one with dementia)
Professional expertise –please specify where you have gained insights into people’s issues and challenges by working with specific groups over the long-term. Please do not include your experience working at MC&R, which is understood:
